1) Hanggul sarang aneiyeyo
2) Meju Hana chu seyo
3) Soju hana chu seyo
4) Ipoyo
5) Wine hanjang chu seyo

dun even know if the pronunciation is correct or not. haha

Winter Sonata

No la, this is not about white snow covering the land in Okpo, Korea. There was snow for a few days last week and that was about it. It is an interesting experience for me to work first time in a cold climate country.

The considerations are different compare to when you are travelling to cold countries for 1-2 weeks holiday. For instance, heating, who thinks about heating when you are checking into a hotel during winter? It is taken for granted. But if you are staying in an apartment alone, you then think about the timing to heat up a room or a whole apartment etc. Same goes to laundry, when holiday all you need to do is make sure you ahve anough clothes to cover the whole trip and bring everything back home for cleaning. Working here you need to think about timing to clean and dry the clothes, whether if you even neeed to put the cloths in a dryer (they actually shrink!) And the fxxking laundry area is not heated is freezing cold when you try to hang your laundry.

Your boiling hot tea gets cold within 5 minutes you put on the table if the room is not sufficiently heated. And if you go out to have dinner in restaurant, which is normally heated, you will have to take off the layers of jacket on your body before sitting down to order you meal, and then put them all on again before going out to the freezing cold.

So far coldest in Okpo is -4C, without wind chill I am OK with one round nect T-shirt with my workclothes and then a jacket on top of it. Jeans have been sufficient so far to cover my legs, but notice that it becomes insufficient when windchill effects comes in. Not sure what alternative I have for that, long johns? hate that.

btw the picture is Seoul 2 days ago during their presidential election (it was -11C!), and Korea have their first lady president.

Reading

Bought a lot of books in KL, never really found time to read. Here in Korea I actually managed to finish 3 books so far, just 2 months in Korea.

1 about politics in Malaysia, most of the content I already know, only interesting thing is the book is authored by a multi millionaire in Malaysia. Good to know the rich and famous have the same view towards our country.

The other 2 are bibliography of 2 successful businessmen in Malaysia. One of them, Dato' Tan owns Mid Valley City Mall, a landmark where everybody in KL knows. reading his story only make you feel how insignificant we are.

You think you earn a good living, have a good family, but to have a life that gone through the second world war, building the first condo in KL, largest mall in South East Asia, won 3 Melbourne Cups and a Grand chess master must be exhilarating!

In the book he describe his friendship with Malaysia's first Prime Minister, something he said made me feel a bit easy where the first prime minister was having fun until 40 yo, then only his journey to greatness began. I now have something to look forward too.

OKPO, KOREA

Finally, like a dream, this is my 3rd month in Okpo, Korea. Staying alone in a studio apartment; feeling the weather changed from 15C to -3C currently. Last week it even snowed.

First time working in a country that actually change season is exciting, the winter so far is bearable, with 2 shirts and a jacket I manage to survive most of the time, only killer is the wind chill due to proximity to the sea.

BBQ joints everywhere, some raw fish joints, due to presence of large expat community, sandwich bars are easily available. It is just an easy 1 hour flight to Northern China and Japan, I keep reminding myself not to make similar mistake I did when working in Sudan, 2 years in Sudan I never even manage to visit Egypt which is just beside Sudan.

I think the next 2 years here will be fun. A game changer.
